Abstract

  • Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) is a comparison of the price index received by farmers (It) to the price index paid by farmers (Ib).
  • NTP is an indicator to see the level of ability/purchasing power of farmers in rural areas. NTP also shows the exchangeability (terms of trade) of agricultural products for goods and services consumed and for production costs.
  • The East Java Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP) in August 2023 rose 1.56 percent from 107.43 to 109.10. The increase in NTP was caused by the price index received by farmers (It) increasing by 1.54 percent, while the price index paid by farmers (Ib) decreased by 0.02 percent.
  • In August 2023, three agricultural subsectors experienced an increase in NTP and two other subsectors experienced a decrease in NTP. The subsector that experienced the highest increase in NTP was the Food Crops subsector by 2.65 percent from 108.48 to 111.36, followed by the People's Plantation Crops subsector by 1.83 percent from 101.22 to 103.07, and the Horticulture subsector by 1.19 percent from 111.90 to 113.23. Meanwhile, the subsector that experienced the highest decline in NTP was the Livestock subsector by 0.81 percent from 105.85 to 104.99, followed by the Fisheries subsector by 0.24 percent from 99.47 to 99.23.
  • Of the five provinces on the island of Java that carried out NTP calculations in August 2023, all of them experienced an increase in NTP. The highest increase in NTP was in Central Java Province at 1.63 percent, followed by East Java at 1.56 percent, Banten at 1.50 percent, West Java at 1.37 percent, and the Special Region of Yogyakarta at 0.99 percent.
