The Human Development Index (HDI) of East Java in 2024 reached 75.35, an increase of 0.70 points (0.94 percent) compared to the previous year (74.65)

Abstract

The increase in the 2024 HDI occurred in all dimensions, including longevity and healthy living, knowledge, and decent living standards.
The growth of the 2024 HDI accelerated from the previous year. All dimensions that make up the HDI increased, especially decent living standards and knowledge.
In the dimension of longevity and healthy living, babies born in 2024 have a life expectancy of 75.07 years, an increase of 0.20 years compared to those born in the previous year. The data source for life expectancy at birth uses the results of the Long Form SP2020 (SP2020-LF).
In the knowledge dimension, the expected length of schooling (HLS) of the population aged 7 years increased by 0.05 years compared to the previous year, from 13.38 to 13.43 years, while the average length of schooling (RLS) of the population aged 25 years and above increased by 0.17 years, from 8.11 in 2023 to 8.28 years in 2024. The dimension of a decent standard of living measured based on the average real expenditure per capita per year (adjusted) increased by 431 thousand rupiah (3.47 percent) compared to the previous year.
