The Human Development Index (HDI) of East Java Province, 2026

The Human Development Index (HDI) recorded faster growth in 2026 compared with the previous year. Improvements in the HDI were observed across all dimensions, particularly in decent standard of living and knowledge.

In the dimension of a long and healthy life, life expectancy at birth for infants born in 2026 is projected to reach 75.57 years, an increase of 0.21 years compared with those born in the previous year. The life expectancy at birth data are sourced from the results of the 2020 Population Census Long Form (SP2020-LF).

In the knowledge dimension, the expected years of schooling (EYS) for the population aged 7 increased by 0.01 years compared with the previous year, from 13.44 to 13.45 years. Meanwhile, the mean years of schooling (MYS) for the population aged 25 and above increased by 0.04 years, from 8.39 years in 2025 to 8.43 years in 2026.

The decent standard of living dimension, measured by annual real expenditure per capita, increased by IDR 795 thousand (5.88 percent) compared with the previous year.
