On Monday, March 3, 2025, BPS East Java held an audience with the East Java Regional Police in the BPS East Java Vicon Room. This meeting discussed the importance of data on the area of corn harvest and production in supporting the national food self-sufficiency program.
Currently, BPS East Java routinely conducts Area Sample Framework (KSA) surveys to obtain data on the area of corn harvest and tile surveys to measure its productivity. The data generated from these two methods is the basis for more accurate and evidence-based agricultural policy planning. With valid and reliable information, it is hoped that the corn production increase program can run more effectively and on target.
In this audience, the East Java Regional Police also said that they had conducted manual data collection related to corn fields in various districts/cities. Therefore, the synergy between BPS and the Regional Police is a strategic step to ensure the validity of the data used in agricultural policies. In addition, BPS East Java emphasized that increasing corn production can be done through two approaches, namely expanding the planting area and increasing productivity per hectare.
Based on the results of the 2023 Agricultural Census (ST2023), the areas with the largest number of corn farmers in East Java include Tuban, Bojonegoro, and Sumenep Regencies. With this potential, it is hoped that various agricultural programs launched by the government can be more focused and have a real impact on the welfare of farmers and national food security.
As a provider of official statistical data, BPS East Java continues to be committed to supporting data-based development. Collaboration with various parties, including the East Java Regional Police, is a real step towards creating more effective and sustainable agricultural policies.
