BPS Jawa Timur Engages Journalists and Community Leaders to Support 2026 Economic Census
April 6, 2026 | Other Activities
The Statistics of Jawa Timur Province (BPS Provinsi Jawa Timur) held a Socialization and Internalization event for the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) with journalists and community leaders at the Majapahit Hall of BPS Provinsi Jawa Timur, Surabaya, on Monday (6/4/2026). The event aimed to strengthen public awareness and encourage active participation from all business actors in Indonesia's largest economic survey.
Acting Head of Statistics of Jawa Timur Province, Herum Fajarwati, opened the event by underscoring the importance of cross-sector collaboration to ensure the success of this once-a-decade census. Mandated under Law No. 16 of 1997 on Statistics, SE2026 will run from May 1 to August 31, 2026, covering all 38 provinces and 514 regencies/cities across Indonesia.
"The 2026 Economic Census belongs to all of Indonesia. Let us together safeguard this milestone step toward national economic independence for a more prosperous Indonesia," said Herum Fajarwati, Acting Head of Statistics of Jawa Timur Province.
The main presentation was delivered by Ike Rahayu Sri, Head of the SE2026 Implementation Team at Statistics of Jawa Timur Province. She explained that SE2026 covers all business scales — from micro, small, and medium enterprises to large corporations — as well as the general public as respondents. Data collection will be conducted through two mechanisms: online self-administered questionnaires for large companies starting May 1, and field enumeration (door to door) for businesses without online access, running from June 15 to August 31, 2026.
Ike emphasized that the quality of census data hinges on public participation levels. Journalists are expected to play a key role in delivering accurate and credible information, shaping public opinion, and encouraging social participation. Meanwhile, community leaders are called upon to build public trust and serve as information bridges at the grassroots level.
"Accurate data from the 2026 Economic Census can only be achieved if the public understands and is willing to participate. The role of journalists and community leaders is strategic in building that trust," said Ike Rahayu Sri, Head of the SE2026 Implementation Team, Statistics of Jawa Timur Province.
SE2026 is designed to address key strategic issues including business competitiveness, the contribution of SMEs to the national economy, the adoption of the digital and green economy, and the economic landscape of Jawa Timur. The census results will serve as the foundation for national development planning and as a data source for government, institutions, and business actors in formulating policies and business strategies.
