• In March 2020, the number of poor people in East Java reached 4,419.10 thousand people (11.09 percent), an increase of 363.1 thousand people compared to September 2019 which was 4,056.00 thousand people (10.20 percent) .
• The percentage of poor people in urban areas in September 2019 was 6.77 percent, increasing to 7.89 percent in March 2020. While the percentage of poor people in rural areas in September 2019 was 14.16 percent, increasing to 14.77 percent in March 2020.
• During the period September 2019 - March 2020, the number of poor people in urban areas rose by 244.0 thousand people (from 1,438.15 thousand people in September 2019 to 1,682.14 thousand people in March 2020). While in rural areas it rose by 119.1 thousand inhabitants (from 2,617.85 thousand in September 2019 to 2,736.97 thousand in March 2020).
• The role of food commodities on the poverty line is far greater than the role of non-food commodities. Contribution of Food Poverty Line to Poverty Line in March 2020 was recorded at 74.97 percent, slightly increased compared to the conditions in September 2019 which amounted to 74.91 percent.
• Based on food commodities, a number of commodities that make a substantial contribution to the food poverty line both in rural and urban areas are rice, filter clove cigarettes, chicken eggs, sugar, chicken meat, tempeh, tofu, instant noodles, coffee, and shallots.
