• Of the eight CPI cities in East Java, all experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Sumenep Regency at 0.41 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in Madiun City at 0.05 percent.
• Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in most indexes of the expenditure group. Of the eleven challenge groups, nine groups experienced inflation, one group experienced deflation and one group experienced no change. The group experiencing a decline in inflation was the group experiencing the highest inflation, namely the footwear and footwear group at 1.22 percent, followed by the personal care and other services group at 1.17 percent, the provision of food and/restaurants at 0.36 percent, the transportation group by 0.35 percent, household equipment, equipment and routine maintenance group 0.26 percent, housing, water, electricity, and household fuel group by 0.17 percent, recreation, sports and culture group by 0.15 percent, the health group by 0.09 percent, and the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the expenditure group that experienced deflation was the information, communication, and financial services group by 0.01 percent, while the education group did not experience any change.
• The May 2021 calendar year inflation rate is 1.03 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (May 2021 versus May 2020) is 1.61 percent.
