Abstract

In March 2023, the level of inequality in East Java's population as measured by the Gini Ratio was 0.387. This figure is up 0.022 points when compared to the Gini Ratio for September 2022 which was 0.365 and up 0.016 points compared to the Gini Ratio in March 2022 which was 0.371.
  • The Gini Ratio in urban areas in March 2023 was recorded at 0.404, an increase compared to the Gini Ratio in September 2022 which was 0.381 and also increased compared to the Gini Ratio in March 2022 which was 0.388.
  • The Gini Ratio in rural areas in March 2023 was recorded at 0.337, an increase compared to the Gini Ratio in September 2022 which was 0.322 and also increased compared to the Gini Ratio in March 2022 which was 0.323.
  • Based on the World Bank's measure of inequality, the distribution of expenditure in the bottom 40 percent group is 18.19 percent. This means that population spending in March 2023 is in the category of low inequality. If broken down by region, in urban areas the figure was recorded at 17.44 percent, which means it belongs to the low inequality category. Meanwhile for rural areas, the figure was recorded at 20.34 percent, which means it belongs to the low inequality category.
